Once the course has been successfully completed and the manual skills test successfully passed, the student is eligible to sit for the written competency exam. To meet the Illinois Department of Public Health requirements, students must pass both a manual skills test and the written competency test. The CNA recertification program is for students that have previously practiced as an Illinois CNA but have a period of 24 consecutive months that the individual has not provided nursing or nursing-related services for pay and has lost approved certification.
